crewdson & cevanne

Crewdson & Cevanne blend voices with ‘found sounds’ and new songs recorded on harp and DIY midi-controllers. Stories of old England, modern throwaway culture, and duelling machines are interwoven with field recordings of abandoned coal mines, plague stones, archaeological digs and the deep, threatening hum of a nuclear power station which concludes their album BRACE. - Accidental Records
Rites for Crossing Water
nominated for an Ivor Novello Award

A collaboration with Jessica Glover, commissioned by Ludic Rooms to imagine the future Coventry canal: Rites For Crossing Water, an outdoor projected three-screen installation, EP and augmented-reality book. The installation is for three screens, with headphones. The première was at the Random String Festival for Coventry City of Culture, and was projected on billboards to reflect on the canal. The book is printed by Secret Knock, and available to order with the digital EP from Accidental Recordings.

Matthew Herbert invited Crewdson & Cevanne to record an English folksong which runs through his score for the horror film 'Starve Acre' (BFI) directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, featuring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark.

"Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian was wearing an extraordinary ‘sonic bonnet’ designed by Jodie Cartman and inspired by traditional Armenian metallic headdresses. The metal and jewel elements of the sonic bonnet are MIDI-controlled and react to touch and movement. Combining a clear and perfectly placed folk delivery, stylised gestures and an array of field recordings and live electronica, her set had an emotional directness that drew the audience into her universe."
