Albion: Fretwork & Nonclassical
Time & Location
About the Event
I wrote this over lockdown last year, so I'm thrilled to hear it's getting out of the house. At the time, I was living in a fellows flat in Girton College, Cambridge, where Delia Derbyshire studied as an undergraduate. I find both Blue Veils and Sailing By have a distant quality, in sound and sentiment.
"What is British identity? And what is that in music? Fretwork with Orlando Gough and Gabriel Prokofiev want to find out, and they have enlisted the help of other composers to produce a tapestry of sounds from these Islands, all transformed through the medium of that quintessentially British ensemble, the consort of viols, aided by computer beats, loops and other effects to tell the story."
